Hawkeyes!
The summer has flown by and our Hawks have continued to improve! We started summer by asking the question who will utilize their off-season the best? And at this point, it appears to be Real Woods – currently ranked #2 at 141lbs. He traveled to Italy with Assad, Kennedy, and Dennis, then continued to sharpen his skills here in Iowa City with his teammates. We can’t wait to watch him put on a show this season in Carver-Hawkeye Arena!
When school reconvenes later this month we will get our first look at Woods and the rest of the 2023-24 team at our coveted Pre-Game Practices! Football Saturdays are so much better when there’s Hawkeye wrestling!
Austin DeSanto, Pat Lugo just competed in Warsaw, Poland at the Poland Open. Lugo failed to place at 65kg after dropping his first round bout to Joshua Finesilver (Israel) 8-2 and his second round match to the Georgian, 11-9. DeSanto won two consecutive matches to advance to the final against fellow American, Daton Fix. DeSanto and Fix have wrestled several times over the last few years and it’s always tight. Austin lost here, 6-3. You can rewatch all their matches and see a complete list of tournament results HERE.

Our team is already looking forward to the next opportunity to compete. The next major competition for our guys will be at the USA Olympic Trials Qualifier Tournament in mid December. If our guys place in the top 7 of this event, they automatically qualify for the Olympic Team Trials in State College, PA on April 19-20, 2024 for a chance of becoming an Olympian! You most likely will see our squad hitting the mat prior to those two events but those are the highlighted and underlined tournaments in the next 8 months!
As many of you know, this year we are celebrating our 50th Year Anniversary of our club! We are excited to bring you fun graphics, merchandise, and content all year long! We only celebrate our 50th once, so everything we put out is limited edition and won’t be replicated! With school starting later this month and the season shortly following, we’re trying to get events and socials on the schedule for you, our best and most supportive fans! We have two new events we’re excited to bring you… Inner Circle Member Only Wrestling Clinic, and Open Practice & Tailgate Party.
Our flagship events like our golf outings, Annual Banquet, and Arctic Plunge are always a hit but we wanted to add a few more opportunities for you to interact with our squad! For more information about these new events, follow the links below!
