Our Clubmen trained with our team all season long and helped them to a 14-1 dual meet record, 9 NCAA qualifiers, 6 All-Americans, 3 NCAA finalists, a National Champion and another top 5 team finish!
Iowa has earned a team trophy at the NCAA Championships 15 times in the last 17 championships under Tom Brands and Iowa has had at least one NCAA finalist in 35 consecutive national tournaments (every year since 1990).

CLUB UPDATE
Who’s ready for some FREESTYLE?! The U.S. Open is in Las Vegas, NV on April 25-27. This year, like years past, we’re sending a contingency of University athletes to compete at the Senior, and U20 Championships. Guys to look out for… Dru Ayala, Brody Benham, Kale Petersen, Miguel Estrada, Isaiah Fenton, Angelo Ferrari, Easton Fleshman, Keyan Hernandez, Gage Marty, Sebastian Robles, Brody Sampson.
Austin DeSanto (61kg) will be competing and will need to win the Senior US Open to earn a spot at Final X, to face the 2024 61kg World Bronze Medalist, Vito Arujau in a best-of-three series.
Spencer Lee (57kg) will not be competing at the Open because he has already qualified for Final X on June 14 in Newark, NJ because of his 2024 Olympic silver medal performance. Spencer will face the 57kg US Open Champion in a best-of-three series for the 2025 World Team spot.
We will likely see Spencer compete prior to Final X at the Pan Am Championships next month – May 8-11 in Monterrey, Mexico.
The World Team Trials are also being contested in Louisville, KY on May 16-18, 2025. This tournament only applies in weight categories where a 2024 Senior Men’s Freestyle Olympic Medalist or 2024 Senior Men’s Freestyle World Medalist did not accept their automatic berth to Final X or where there is no 2024 Senior Men’s Freestyle Olympic Medalist or 2024 Senior Men’s Freestyle World Medalist.
Affected Weight Classes Bolded: 57kg, 61kg, 65kg, 70kg, 74kg, 79kg, 84kg, 92kg, 97kg, 125kg
One match final at this event – Winner will advance to the Final X to face the US Open Champion.
HAPPENING NOW
We were pleased to announce the formation of the HWC Board of Trustees last October. The Board of Trustees was established as a fundraising board to further our vision to be the number one Olympic & senior level wrestling program in America. Since its inception, the Board has brought in approximately a quarter million dollars! And these supporters didn’t just commit to a one-time gift but to giving annually – directly benefiting our guys for years to come!
With 4 revenue streams; Events, the Inner Circle, our Herb Tyler Endowment and now the Board of Trustees – we will start climbing our way back to the top of the wrestling world! THANK YOU for having our back!
Please reach out to our Board of Trustees Co-Chairs, Tom and Barb Barton for more information on how you can help.
