Hawks,
Spencer Lee kept the May Momentum going with impressive victories in Istanbul! He is officially an Olympian!
Spencer outscored his 4 opponents 42-11 and ended three of his matches by technical superiority in 22, 53, and 35 seconds! Spence beat Ben Tarik of Morocco, Kazakhstan’s Rakhat Kalzhan, a two-time Asian Championships medalist, Wanhao Zou of China, a U23 World bronze medalist, and European champion Vladimir Egorov of Macedonia.
Lee competes next at the Paris Olympic Games on August 8th and 9th. Sessions start at 11:00am and 6:15pm local time (4:00am & 11:15am CT), each day. Please fill out this Interest Form if you would like us to organize a Watch Party Event for the Olympic Games!
We have a large contingency of Hawks traveling to Paris to watch Spencer live at the Games. If you are also interested in attending the Olympics in person, we recommend getting your flights, hotel reservations, and tickets as soon as possible. Tickets can be purchased through this certified Olympic Resale Site. Make sure you get both the morning and afternoon sessions on each day you plan on attending!
And don’t worry… Spencer Lee gear is coming soooon!!!
We are finally in our new home, the Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center and the Bob & Kathy Nicolls Wrestling Room! Our team enjoyed having everyone there on May 30th at the Grand Opening Event hosted by the University of Iowa Center for Advancements.
“I think you have to have the full package and we have the whole package now,” said Tom Brands, noting that the NIL landscape and new rules will continue to impact college athletics. “I think facilities, uniforms and everything that goes with being the latest and greatest is important. This (facility is) pretty late and great.”
Our June jubilation starts with Ben Kueter (U20 – 125kg) and Patrick Kennedy (U23 – 79kg) winning the U20 & U23 World Team Trials titles in Geneva, OH!
Ben Kueter, a 2022 U20 World Champion at 97 kg, looks to earn his second age-group World gold medal in Pontevedra, later this year.
The next event is our Riverside Golf Outing at one of Iowa’s best courses, Blue Top Ridge! Yesterday, we reached full capacity with 18 hole sponsors, 36 teams, and 144 golfers! This event and our fans never cease to amaze us! Thank you once again stepping up and supporting our athletes by attending our events. If you want to make a difference in this year’s event but can’t attend – donate to our event as an Event Sponsor!
Many of you have probably already seen our newest raffle, the E-Z-Go HWC Golf Cart! The raffle ends on January 1, 2025 or when we sell 1,000 tickets! Enter to Win today!
We’re not trying to skip right over summer BUT we are looking forward to the Fall for our Sporting Clays Shoot in mid October!
Looking forward to seeing you all very soon!
