Stephen Buchanan is your 97kg US Open Champion! He won four straight matches, outscoring his opponents 31-5! His dominant run included two technical falls, one fall, and a 5-3 decision in the championship final to secure his place on top of the podium and into Final X — USA Wrestling’s World Team Trials on Friday, June 19, 2026 in Newark, NJ!
Patrick Kennedy had a great tournament, only dropping one match to the eventual champ, Chance Marsteller, 0-6 in the semifinals. Kennedy recorded four technical falls and outscored his opponents 53-7 to capture third place! Kennedy will wrestle at Final X for true-third versus Evan Wick, prior to the championship best-of-three series on June 19th.
Spencer Lee reached the US Open finals at 57kg. He won three matches in a total of 3 mins and 18 seconds — two technical falls and a fall — before suffering his first loss to familiar foe, Luke Lilledahl, from Nittany Lion Wrestling Club in the championship final 4-5.
Austin DeSanto went 4-2 on the weekend, winning four matches—all via technical fall and out scoring those opponents 41-0! He fell to NCAA runner up Ben Davino (0-3) in the quarter finals and NCAA champion Jax Forrest (0-5) in the bronze medal bout. Lee (57kg) and DeSanto (61kg) can still qualify for Final X and have the opportunity to represent Team USA at the World Championships this Fall. They both need to compete and win on May 14-15 at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament (WTTCT) in Louisville, for a chance to add themselves to the Final X card. Michael Caliendo will also be competing at the WTTCT for a spot in Final X 74kg.
Stephen Buchanan (97kg) and Austin DeSanto (61kg) are the representatives of Team USA for the Pan-American Championships this weekend held at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, IA. The Pan-Ams will take place from Thursday–Sunday with DeSanto wrestling on Saturday and Buchanan on Sunday. Here is the full schedule of events for this week’s competition!
Tom & Terry Brands are getting inducted into the Pan-American Wrestling Hall of Fame on Wednesday evening prior to the start of action on Thursday morning.
About 200 in person attendees, and 300 online bidders helped us raise over $200k last Saturday at our Annual Banquet — Clubmen’s Dinner! It was great having the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center as our host for this incredible event.
