August marks the end of summer and the start of wrestling season — well, kinda. This month will play host to the U20 World Championships, senior World team training camps, and student orientation for our 2025-26 team members.
Although the NCAA season doesn’t officially start until October, many of our team members are already preparing for the season ahead and helping our Clubmen get ready for World-level competition. A sign that the culture of your team is strong is when you have 20+ athletes sticking around all summer for RTC/HWC practices! IRON SHARPENS IRON!
Spencer Lee, Kennedy Blades, and Victor Voinovich III are all preparing for the UWW World Championships next month in Croatia! Lee & Blades will be representing America while Voinovich will be wrestling for Serbia.
Our athletes are in the middle of an intense training phase as they prepare for world-class competition. They are fine tuning all of their skills and limiting distractions, so they can be at their very best when that first whistle blows in Zagreb.

Incoming freshman, Leister Bowling IV (77kg) is preparing for the U20 Greco-Roman World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria — Saturday & Sunday, August 23-24. He’s been training with HWC Member athletes, Kaleb Young, Alex Marinelli and Jacob Warner.

Our staff is on the recruiting trail, starting to build relationships with the class of 2027. Recruitment of these athletes began just hours after FINAL X had concluded, at midnight on June 15. The coaching staff contacted the nation’s top prospects and will continue to work diligently on getting the best-of-the-best to WRESTLETOWN, USA!
Most of our team stayed in town this summer but newcomers will report back to campus the week prior to the start of classes on Monday, Aug. 25. Once everyone is back, our team will have several meetings with the athletic department to go over NCAA rules, House Settlement updates, the University of Iowa Code of Conduct, and Sports Psychology resources to ensure everyone is on the same page heading into the first semester of the new year.

Every fall prior to a home football game the University of Iowa Wrestling team hosts open practices for our fans to attend. This environment is hot, intense, and one of the most prized wrestling traditions at Iowa! This year, our Open Practice will coincide with Homecoming and the Iowa vs Indiana football game on Saturday, September 27th.
Following our practice, everyone will head outside to our tailgate party. You, along with other wrestling fans can enjoy food, play games, and drink some beverages prior to kickoff!
