Hawks!
The summer is officially over but that means wrestling season is right around the corner! Our team is quickly getting back into the swing of things and finding the balance between school work, their social lives, and wrestling! Currently, our guys are doing a combination of cross-training and volunteer wrestling workouts to get themselves ready for the start of the season. Their first official practice is Tuesday, October 10.
Spencer Lee, Austin DeSanto, Patricio Lugo, Jayden Eierman, Kaleb Young, Alex Marinelli, Jeremiah Moody, and Jacob Warner are currently preparing for the Bill Farrell International Tournament in mid November, hosted by the New York Athletic Club in Midtown Manhattan. The next competition after that is the US Olympic Trials Qualifier Tournament, December 15-17, 2023 in TX. If our guys place in the top 6 of this event, they automatically qualify for the Olympic Team Trials in State College, PA on April 19-20, 2024 for a chance of becoming an Olympian!
Our mission is to help make our athletes dreams a reality and those dreams can come to fruition in a year’s time. But we can’t do it alone! We need your help to dig deep and give everything you can to help our guys.
Every fall the University of Iowa Wrestling team hosts open practices for our fans to attend prior to home Iowa Football games. Our university athletes are not required to attend these pre-season workouts but love putting on a show for our most loyal supporters that show up early on game days! This environment is hot, intense, intimate, and one of the most prized wrestling traditions at Iowa – an obvious fan favorite!
On Saturday, September 30th the HWC is hosting an Open Practice and Tailgate Party! Come watch the last team to train inside the historic Dan Gable Wrestling Complex, within Carver-Hawkeye Arena (CHA) before they move into their $31 million, Gotchke Family Wrestling Training Center & Nichols Family Wrestling Room next season! Our Open Practice time will vary depending on the start of the game (which is still TBD). Our Tailgate Party will be immediately after practice in Parking Lot 46 on the north side of CHA. Come grab a steak sandwich, play a game or two of bags and head to the game!

We’re also on the tail end of our 50th year celebrating our club! We are excited to bring all new gear and merchandise next month for the start of our Inner Circle Membership year. It will include Inner Circle garments, 50th year designs, and new HWC items for you, our best and most supportive fans!
The 2023-24 season schedule should be released this month sometime – like you, we can’t wait! Once we know our schedule we will share with you our Pre-Match Social hosts and the date for our annual Arctic Plunge! We also have two new events we’re excited to bring you… the Inner Circle Member Only Wrestling Clinic, and Open Practice & Tailgate Party!
