My name is Nick Heeren. I grew up in Cedar Rapids with my older brother Dan. He wrestled for Kennedy. Growing up, we would attend lots of matches. I loved the sport from early on.
Our loyalty to the Hawkeyes was firmly cemented by attending many Iowa wrestling duals, football and basketball games.
I live in Waukee with my wife Emily and two kids: Graham (5) and Scarlett (3).
We are Season Ticket holders. I take my dad and my son Graham to meets.
I am an original member of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club: Des Moines Chapter.
I’m plunging for my brother, Dan. Last month, he was killed in a work accident. Dan was an incredible Hawkeye fan. He loved to tailgate football games.
We would talk all the time about the Wrestling team… About the lineup… Who was coming in that year or who we should get. The last dual we saw together was the victory over Ohio State in early 2017.
Dan had a flair for wild and crazy ideas and always wanted to have “experiences”. What better way to honor him, than to experience the Arctic Plunge while benefiting one of the things Dan loved so much: Iowa Wrestling.
My goal this year was to raise enough donations to get the Grizzly cooler…
But the outpouring of support...
Friends, family, and the wrestling community…
The Hawkeye Wrestling Club connections I’ve made…
…and the Hawkeye Report forums…
It has truly humbled me.
I couldn’t be more proud to support the Hawkeyes–Iowa Wrestling and the HWC.
This one’s for Dan…
